    Are you on track with your 2024 goals? I failed mine in the first week. The last meal of 2023 gave me a serious bout of food poisoning, and while everyone was making merry and starting the year with optimism, I spent the first few days of 2024 being sick in bed. One of my goals was to post weekly on LinkedIn, I just couldn't summon the energy to write and whatever energy I had left was spent managing Facebook and Google campaigns for Omni Digital Pte Ltd’s clients. Imagine failing in your 2024 goals right off the bat. It’s like tripping and falling at the starting line of a race. I remembered this article by James Clear, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Atomic Habits which talked about how to stay on track with your goals when we encounter interruptions in our daily lives. ➡️ Planning for chaos “The chaos and unpredictability of life is one of the factors that makes sticking to your goals difficult”. When I was setting my goals, I realised I didn’t plan for roadblocks or unexpected interruptions. For example, if I had a pipeline of content scheduled, I could have still hit my goal of posting weekly. ➡️ Reduce the scope but stick to the schedule Instead of not posting completely, I could have posted something that was in my drafts. It wouldn’t have been ideal, but at least I stuck to the schedule. ➡️ The If-Then Technique Use this phrase “If [something unexpected], then [your response] is..” For example, “If I can’t post this week, then I’ll at least come up with 2-3 post ideas” This forces us to factor in roadblocks that we may encounter in our day-to-day. The year ahead is more like a marathon than a sprint. Even with a stumble right at the start, there’s still plenty of time to make up ground. 💪 Planning for chaos might help you achieve your goals.     When I was 18, I wanted to be a journalist. When I was 20, I studied to be an auditor. When I was 24, I was all set for a career in private banking. When I was 29, I started my first side hustle, built my first website and launched my first Google ads campaign. (Had no idea what I was doing but I got my first customers through Google ads. I was hooked.) When I was 31, I finally took the plunge and quit banking to be a full time entrepreneur.     This is how I won my first client for Omni Digital Pte Ltd without a portfolio. One of my first prospect meetings when I started my digital marketing agency was with a big recruitment company in Singapore. Having just started 3 months ago, I was super excited about getting any meeting, but I had a ton of self-doubt. I had been doing Google & Facebook marketing for many years, but my agency did not have any past clients at that point. "Am I truly qualified for this?" "Will they see through my inexperience?” “ Is my presentation deck good enough?” All I could do was to be well prepared. I did hours of in-depth research on the industry and a very thorough walkthrough of their entire funnel. I provided value upfront by highlighting their poor online reputation. They were getting many bad reviews from disgruntled job seekers that were hurting their lead-generation efforts and they were completely unaware of it. I showed screenshots of their competitors’ online marketing efforts to highlight the gap. Thankfully, after an epic 3-hour meeting, I impressed them enough to beat a few more established agencies to seal the deal. Here’s what we did for them 🚀 Consulting package on their overall marketing strategy 🚀 Outreach to prospects via personalized email marketing 🚀 Creating systems to get consistent 5-star reviews from happy customers. Today, over a year later, we’re still working together on their online marketing. Looking back, I think the only advantage I had was the amount of research I did. This is what I did: ✅ Did a prospect journey where I put myself in the shoes of a prospect looking for a recruitment agency ✅ Made a contact submission on their website to test their funnel and response time (they took almost 5 business days to get back - a definite conversion killer) ✅ Used online tools like SEMRush & GTMetrix to analyze their website’s performance vs 5 other competitors ✅ Used the Facebook Ads Library to show that their competitors were running ads aggressively. To every new entrepreneur out there: It's not always about having the fanciest portfolio or the most experience. Sometimes, it's about showing up, doing the work, and genuinely caring about your client's success. And most importantly, it's about overcoming the inner voices of doubt and proving to yourself that you belong. How did you win your first client?
