The need to keep up with changing demands of job roles and economic uncertainties are among key concerns for many. However, technician Muhammad Shamil Bin Abu Bakar, who has benefited from SP Group’s training and career development initiatives, tackles it head on. Today, Shamil is one of our nine certified drone pilots using his newly acquired skills to inspect and maintain substations. Similarly, technical officer Goh Yap Meng was offered the opportunity to take up a direct honours degree programme in Electrical Power Engineering, sponsored by SP Group. Shamil and Yap Meng reflect SP’s dedication to building a workforce that is equipped to empower the future of energy. For holistic efforts in close partnership with the Union of Power and Gas Employees (UPAGE), SP Group was awarded the Plaque of Commendation (Star) at the National Trades Union Congress May Day Awards on 10 May 2024. The opening of our new Thailand office marked a milestone in our journey to establish ourselves as a leading sustainable energy solutions provider in the country. From a “one-man show” in a co-working space when we first started our operations in July 2022, we are proud to call the 15th floor on Unicorn Phayathai our new home for our growing team, now 20-strong. We celebrated the move with a simple ceremony, accompanied by our key partners Banpu NEXT Company Limited and Rangsit University– whose support and trust has enabled many early wins. We look forward to growing our presence in the market and creating new chapters of success together. 

The SP team joined union comrades and peers across various industries at the annual May Day awards on 10 May, organised by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). With the valuable partnership and strong endorsement from the Union of Power and Gas Employees (UPAGE), SP Group was conferred the highest award for organisations – the Plaque of Commendation (Star), presented by NTUC Secretary-General Chee Meng Ng. Our collaborative efforts over the years have been centred on enhancing career and development opportunities and pathways for our workers. Receiving the award, Group Chief Executive Officer Stanley Huang said, “This recognition serves as a testament to our long-standing union-management partnership towards building a workforce well-equipped for the diverse and evolving needs of the industry. Our employees are instrumental in upholding Singapore’s world-class energy network reliability and advancing SP’s sustainable energy solutions for customers.” Congratulations to all award recipients!
