𝗩𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗛𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗲𝘀 The entire Synergy family joins our joyous team on board the “Fairchem Valor” in wishing everyone celebrating the vibrant festival of colors, Holi. Demonstrating that the use of bright paint extends beyond hull maintenance, this diverse and exuberant crew prepared thoroughly for a fun event that engaged everyone and honored the finest traditions of this celebration. "In the digital age, the tradition of using signal flags for communication at sea remains relevant. My team has uniquely highlighted and paid homage to the timeless maritime communication traditions by hoisting alphabetical flags spelling out 'HOLI' alongside numerical flags representing the year '2024,'" said Capt. Rajeshkumar singh from the FAIRCHEM VALOR. #WeAreSynergy #Holi #Nautical #FestivalofColours #TeamSynergy #Maritime #Shipsandshipping #HappyHoli

We are delighted to share Issue 24 of the Synergy Group Newsletter, Fog Horn, whose cover once again highlights safety, with further such figures on page 17 and use of these and other data at the heart of our Executive Chairman’s message.        Having first advocated proper collection, analysis and employment of data in general, with safety as an example Captain Rajesh Unni describes some of today’s challenges and then outlines the Synergy principles of leadership, clarity, openness, communication and teamwork, upon which our high safety standards are founded. All of course depends on thoughts, words and deeds, and these are guided but never distracted by precise data that steer and continually improve the decisions that we take.           This issue also carries news of two exciting joint ventures and articles on good dialogue, MARPOL at 50, sustainability, wider CSR and another SAR. Personal and vessel accolades and Group Awards jostle for space with accounts of attendance at major industry events and hosting the new Director General of Shipping, and women at sea and ashore are again very prominent, whether as Second Cook, Second Officer, part of an empowering leadership program or at the very centre of our involvement in a Global Maritime Forum initiative. We hope you find this Newsletter interesting and informative and would very much like your feedback and any thoughts on what we might cover in future editions. Please reach out to us or contact any member of the wider Synergy Marine Group family. 👉  Click the link to dive into the full newsletter and join us on this journey of discovery and excellence.  https://lnkd.in/dUs9yMCC #WeAreSynergy #SafetyFirst #Excellence #EmpoweringLeadership #Maritime #Sustainability

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘆 … It is so good to see the widespread positivity about the Global Maritime Forum All Aboard Alliance Diversity@Sea project, where very specific sailings offer real time data in aid of making seafaring more inclusive and tackling the main issues still encountered by women.   To that we are very pleased to add a piece of wisdom from Aizza Kesavmoorthy, our representative at the 22-23 February gathering in Copenhagen when more than a dozen industry stakeholders distilled current material and helped plan the next stages. A former Deck Officer and currently handling DE&I and Crewing Projects from our Philippines office, amid breakout rooms, action lists, pinboards, sticky notes, marker pens and focussed camaraderie Aizza reported that the “workshop truly provided a broader perspective and understanding of where we should put in more efforts in this very significant and ambitious project.”   Exactly so. Those involved are not simply putting more women on board than presently usual and then just jotting down a few reminders. They have all embarked on a detailed process that, in repeating cycle, will find, act on and review information as part of a continuum of adjusting all aspects of onboard life, so that one day all women seafarers are as content as they are unremarked, and the industry can genuinely claim gender parity.    We are still a long way off, but we will get there if we follow the signs.    The Synergy Marine Group is highly delighted, wholly enthusiastic and very proud in being one of the participants in this initiative. Now, in the second half of Women's History Month, there is a strong sense of making, as well as celebrating, history. #WeAreSynergy #DiversityAtSea #womeninmaritime #genderparity #SailingForChange #womenshistorymonth #dei

𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝟰𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗗𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗸 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 Synergy's shortlisting for this reflects the dedication of all involved with our managed bulk carrier fleet, just as the Award itself would be to the further credit of those whose committed professionalism deserves the recognition - our seafarers and all ashore who support them. Synergy would be delighted and also deeply honoured to succeed, so if you would like to favour our team with your own support please do so by selecting Synergy Marine Group in the list of nominees in this category and submitting your vote accordingly. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿   Few things lift morale, cement camaraderie and message inclusivity better than sports teams vying for trophies while wearing company kit and logo.    Simply put, everyone gains. The competitors enjoy the teamwork and are justly proud to have been selected, the spectators love the thrill of peer involvement or just well contested matches and the organisers and sponsors have publicity but will revel far more in their enabling role and in showcasing diversity and fairness in tandem.    Change continues apace, but in most disciplines participation has not yet achieved gender parity and in some places there is still active discouragement, if not outright bar. However, the direct opposite was on display at the recent Atlantic Premier League corporate cricket Tournament 24 in Mumbai, when 8 teams took part, and fierce on field competition was matched only by sportsmanship and the joy of togetherness at the end. All teams exhibited exceptional skill and determination and a large and very engaged crowd was thoroughly impressed by their performances.   As pictured, there was some success for a very capable Synergy women’s side, but while a team can prevail in a league or a knockout, good individual results mean less than an overall favourable outcome. Thus the actual winner here was the tournament, as a testament to the effectiveness of promoting gender diversity in both sports and workplace, and in further proof that all can excel in their chosen field, demonstrating the importance of providing equal opportunities for everyone.   The Synergy Marine Group extends heartfelt gratitude to all the participants, sponsors and supporters who made this event possible, and please forever may such things continue. #WeAreSynergy

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀   Our interview with retiring Captain Jim Podger on the “MAERSK CYPRUS” is living history in which Jim briefly outlines his career, reflecting with frankness on the determination by which he regained lost ground, apprehension at the outset of his own maiden voyage, the luck that later led to a key role and the candour by which he retained it. Fondly nicknaming his first employer, Jim draws us with warm reminiscence into a forgotten world of polished wood, tankers with gas stoves, lifeboats with oars and the tiny British decimal halfpenny, and then traces the common path of seagoing happiness mixed with sadness at missing family opportunities and milestones. He has seen many changes and has lost several old friends - among them the Decca Navigator and LORAN - and based on layered industry knowledge over many years he greatly enthuses about women seafarers, seeks reduced onboard paperwork and urges that mental well-being is key.   Finally, before joining other former seafarers in the more leisurely world of stamps and postal history, and driven by experience rather than sentimentality, Jim offers his own particular wisdom, in kindly exercise of the justified right to express an opinion that is well worth reading by all. 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 As well as celebrating the achievements of women worldwide, today further emphasises that, for true gender parity, much still remains to be done.    A UN theme of “Invest in women: Accelerate progress” calls once more for urgent and joint action on gender equality, and as an ongoing example we again draw attention to the Global Maritime Forum All Aboard Alliance Diversity@Sea initiative. As one of about a dozen leading stakeholders Synergy is gathering empirical data by testing real-life onboard solutions in real time in seeking to make seagoing life more inclusive and to address the main problems experienced by women.    As planned, and as shown, our managed Aframax tanker 'SOUTHERN REVERENCE' sailed last November under the command of Capt Radhika Menon, mentor to Synergy’s growing number of female seafarers. This was after meeting various minimum requirements, including a crew with at least four women (we currently have six), and addressing necessities such as suitable sanitary items, reliable 24/7 Wi-Fi, and the bespoke PPE already widely in place at Synergy. The process of collating and reviewing information, and subsequent action, is also well underway. Just like every day, on International Women's Day, Synergy stands united in our commitment to gender equality across the maritime sector. We recognize the crucial and increasing role that women play in all our operations, both at sea and ashore, and we're dedicated to fostering an environment where their talents and skills are celebrated. We pledge to continue dismantling barriers and challenging stereotypes. Our goal is not only to support but to champion the cause of women, ensuring they have equal opportunities for career advancement, leadership roles and key participation in decision-making processes. Furthermore, we commit to broadening our culture of inclusivity and respect, where the contributions of our female colleagues are integral to our success. Diversity in our workforce isn’t just a moral imperative but a strategic advantage Moreover, as leaders, we take responsibility for driving this change, ensuring that our policies, practices and daily operations reflect our dedication to gender equality. We unconditionally promise to be proactive in our approach, seeking out and implementing innovative strategies to empower women at every level of our organization. Today, and every day, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a maritime workplace that is empowering for women. Together, we sail towards a future of shared success and true equality, where every member of the Synergy family can thrive 💙.   #WeAreSynergy #InternationalWomensDay #genderequality #womeninmaritime #DiversityAndInclusion #inspireinclusion #maritime #oilandgas #shippingindustry #shipsandshipping #iwd2024 #SynergyMarine #dei

𝗔 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬 As we count down to 2030, the maritime industry faces a dual challenge: advancing sustainability while safeguarding seafarer well-being. In a compelling essay, Chief Officer Yury D. Khadarin on the “HENNING MAERSK” examines this critical balance. He presents a vision where environmental stewardship and human-centered actions converge, charting a course for a truly sustainable maritime future. Khadarin's essay, awarded for its insightful clarity, identifies six core actions essential to transforming the industry. These range from implementing global labor standards to fostering an inclusive and diverse maritime workforce. What actions can we take today to ensure a sustainable and equitable future for all seafarers by 2030? 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆’𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺   On 20 February Marine Money’s inaugural India Ship Finance Forum brought together leading owners, operators and financiers, and by gathering on the annual P & I renewal date in Mumbai they marked our world in both time and space.     This very well received event at a major maritime hub was attended by four senior people from the Synergy Marine Group, led by CEO (Marine Services and Corporate Functions) Mathavan Subbiah, who spoke as part of a midday panel on how to enhance India’s global stature and maritime cooperation.   First thanking the hosts for the opportunity to represent ship management and discreetly noting pride at the Group’s role in elevating India's status in that sector, though it is the world’s foremost ship manager and India’s largest third-party manager with over 650 vessels and more than 26,000 predominantly Indian seafarers, Mathavan presented Synergy simply as a microcosm of the marine powerhouse that India has become, with a rich seafaring heritage and a dual role as both part and key facilitator of India’s continuing booming economy.    Ensuring that increased recruitment matches rising demand and continuing (with awareness and scholarship initiatives) to encourage youngsters - and especially to attract female seafarers - are core activities, but the Synergy Group CEO nevertheless emphasised that, while such is necessary, it is not sufficient. Continuous training and upskilling, particularly in IT, are crucial.   Evolution in vessel operation, most notably through digitalisation, streamlines tasks and enhances decision-making, yet it offers the challenges of unfamiliarity, future-proofing and competition from overseas. Thus, by first resonating with them, the smart digital enterprises (and also the vessels) of today need to attract, train and retain the even smarter digital recruits of tomorrow. There is a pressing need for a mandatory pre-sea course on marine digitalisation so that (to the tech-savvy generation) a seagoing career is universally seen as attractive, and Indian recruits can leverage their innate linguistic and technological prowess in becoming and remaining digitally native. #WeAreSynergy #shipmanagement #innovation #nextgen #digitaltransformation #maritimeindustry #technology #shippingindustry
