Dr Puah's extensive background in orthopaedic surgery makes him a trusted specialist in the field. He completed his medical training at the renowned Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore, and honed his skills through residency training as part of the pioneer batch of SingHealth Orthopaedic Surgery Residents.
As SingHealth's first Orthopaedic Surgery Chief Resident, Dr Puah's commitment to excellence and leadership is evident. In recognition of his outstanding abilities, he was ranked as one of the Top 3 SingHealth Chief Residents across different residency programs in 2015.
Dr Puah's pursuit of knowledge and expertise has taken him across the globe. He has received specialized training in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Arthroscopy, and Sports Medicine as a Visiting Scholar at Tulane University School of Medicine, Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Additionally, he completed a Shoulder and Upper Limb Fellowship under the guidance of Dr Laurent Lafosse at Alps Surgery Institute, Clinique Générale d'Annecy, Annecy, France. Notably, Dr Puah is the only Singaporean trained by Dr Laurent Lafosse, a pioneer of modern shoulder surgery.
To further enhance his skills, Dr Puah has undertaken valuable fellowships and training programs in various countries. He participated in the 301 Hospital Joint Fellowship in Beijing, China, focusing on Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. He also completed a Visiting Surgeon Program on Elbow Repair & Elbow Arthroscopy at Asan Medical Center in Seoul, South Korea. As an observer, he gained valuable insights at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Duke University, Durham, USA. Additionally, he has engaged in attachments and visits to hospitals in the Philippines and Switzerland.
Dr Puah's commitment to education and mentorship is evident through his involvement in teaching and training future medical professionals. He has held academic appointments at esteemed institutions such as the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University Singapore, Duke-NUS Medical School, and Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. He has also actively contributed as a faculty member in the SingHealth Orthopaedic Residency Training Programme and the SingHealth PGY1 Programme.
Beyond his clinical contributions, Dr Puah has served in various capacities within the Singapore Orthopaedic Association, including as Honorary Secretary and Scientific Chair for the association's Annual Scientific Meeting. He has also been involved as a Speciality Board Member in the Chapter of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore. Dr Puah's dedication to community welfare extends to his volunteer work with the Handicaps Welfare Association, and he continues to contribute as a Reservist Orthopaedic Surgeon with the Singapore Armed Forces.
