A no-scalpel vasectomy is a form of permanent male contraception. The vas deferens, the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles, are divided and sealed through a tiny puncture in the scrotal skin. Instead of a scalpel incision, a specialised instrument creates a small opening, which usually heals without stitches. Sperm continue to be produced but no longer reach the semen. Contraception is not immediate, so another method must be used until a follow-up semen analysis confirms that no sperm remain.
